Pearls, Pearls, and more Pearls

(modeling my pearls)

Dear Memzelles,

Has anyone every called you their pearl or have you ever heard anyone else called a pearl?  Because pearls are known to be rare and admirable the word “pearl” has become a metaphor to represent someone or something valuable or treasured.  So if a loved one calls you their pearl, take it as a compliment .  It’s just a confirmation of their admiration for you.

So besides wearing pearls, what else do you know about them?  Let me share with you some things I already knew and some things I learned about pearls.  A pearl is the gem for the month of June. Pearls can be natural – created without human intervention  and is very rare and valuable, or cultured, essentially man-made.  Freshwater pearls are form oysters whereas saltwater pearls come from mussels.  The largest ever found pearl was as big as a basketball. Pearls are not always perfectly round and come in different shades from pink  to black.

Pearls have been worn all over the world for many generations.  Pearls are so versatile.  Pearls are made into necklaces, sewn on fabric, made into rings, earrings, and bracelets and even some Simply Memzelle’s headbands have pearl detail on them.  They go with most styles, fabric patterns, and colors.  They are timeless.  Who doesn’t have them and wear them?  From style icon, Audry Hepburn, to current celebrities such as Oprah and Keira Knightly array themselves in pearls.

Personally, among the great variety of pearl accessories out there, I only own pearl necklaces.  I would love  to slowly expand my collection by adding perhaps a pearl ring or a bracelet to go with my pearl necklaces.

1.   Metalwork corsage choker, $38

2.  Penny Black drops, earrings, $16

3.  Delila vintage carved coral class bracelet, $54.99

4.  Pearl and rhinestone bracelet, $8.99

These are some pearl accessories I saw and fell in love with.  I hope you enjoyed learning something about pearls and are inspired to dig out your pearls and wear them!  They’ll flatter you, I promise!
